we are truly grateful to have you here, in this moment in time, sharing space with us.

We live stressful, over-stimulated and fast-paced lives. It’s no wonder we feel dysregulated and disconnected from our bodies. Many people chronically live in a fight or flight nervous system response. This can wreak havoc on various bodily systems. We know deep down that rest and supportive self-care practices are the antidote. As good as our intentions are, this rest is often deprioritized or delayed as we promise ourselves we’ll relax when our work is done (which it never is). It’s a never-ending cycle.

At Fieldside we help support people reconnect with their mind, body and soul through yoga, movement and grounding into nature. Come exactly as you are and submerge yourself in silence, stillness, or intentional movement and panoramic views of Mother Earth's beauty.

The aim is for you to leave feeling grounded, embodied and regulated by intentional self-care. Meet your needs through a variety of class options tailored for all bodies and yoga abilities. Be in community with our team and others working to flourish as the best versions of themselves.

Our mission is to provide a body-inclusive space for all to show up unapologetically, move in nurturing ways and compassionately build attunement. We guide students in cultivating mindfulness and intentional self-care both on and off the mat.

welcome!

Everyone is welcome to share space in our inclusive yoga community. We love to support as many local businesses as possible to strengthen and cheer for our greater Kawartha Lakes community.

Each teacher is on a personal yoga journey which they continue to develop and share in class. We are all unique in how we teach, support and guide our classes. We invite you to show up unapologetically and tune in to what your body needs in the moment.

All bodies (shape, size, gender, colour and ability) are welcome in this space. We aim to always treat people with dignity and respect.

The studio is a space free of toxic energy. Collectively we reject unrealistic beauty standards, body shaming and food restrictions. Diet culture has narrow ideals and oppresses people. At the studio we do not comment on people's bodies, share our latest diet trend or support a one-way-fits-all definition of health.

Core Values...

Fieldside Yoga recognizes they are settlers that live, work, and play on stolen ancestral lands of the Anishinabewaki, Wendake-Nionwentsio, Mississauga and Haudenosaunee peoples. We pay respect to and acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land and deeply thank Elders past, present and emerging. We collectively learn more about Canada’s history of the forced removal, genocide and ongoing trauma inflicted by settlers on Indigenous people. We recognize that more can be done in unlearning, educating and reconciling which deserves action beyond this acknowledgement.

My journey to yoga and meditation began at the age of 18. I experienced my first hot yoga class at a local studio before attending university. It was the next best thing I could find after being a competitive dancer. Much like the dance studio, the yoga studio was a place where I could quiet my racing thoughts, attune with my body and get a deep stretch. As the years progressed, my intention behind doing yoga became more about managing my stress levels and less about reasons to do with classic fitness. Then along came one tiny human, postpartum anxiety, a deep shift in my values around professional work and a need to be more intentional with how I spent my time. I found both yoga and meditation imperative in regulating my nervous system, cementing themselves in my life as supportive self-care practices. That was when I yearned to deepen my understanding of yoga to become a teacher and learn more about the foundations of yoga. This experience was life-changing! It completely changed my understanding of my practice and my relationship with my body.

I guide students in listening to their bodies by building attunement, gratitude, self-compassion and kindness. I teach from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive and body-inclusive lens. All bodies are good bodies and I weave in themes of body neutrality and liberation.

My yoga practice has evolved incredibly over time, from a random Thursday night donation class when I was 19, to an entire lifestyle that encompasses yoga, meditation and mindfulness. I originally fell in love with Prenatal yoga and Mom-Baby yoga, as it was an amazing way to connect with other mamas going through similar experiences. I later learned that I was suffering from postpartum anxiety, which then turned into general anxiety. Yoga and meditation became much more than a physical practice, but a way to manage stress, alleviate anxiety and begin to come back to myself. I knew I needed yoga as a more consistent component in my life, so I decided to sign up for my YTT200 at the Yoga Loft. This is where my healing journey truly began. I learned so much about myself and how to guide others through their own journies with yoga. I look forward to continuing to grow in this role as an instructor who can help others get exactly what they need in the moment, through yoga and mindfulness.

MEL PINDER

I love teaching a good flow but am more than happy to slow it down and fully immerse myself into a restorative or yoga Nidra practice. Regardless of the style of class, I encourage all of my students to listen to what their body and mind needs in that moment. I promote movement and breathwork that is mindful, nurturing, fun and healing, in a space that is free from judgement.

I am currently on a journey to rediscover myself outside of motherhood and teaching. I truly love spending my time adventuring with my 2 kiddos, but am learning that I have other interests as well. Music, uninterrupted hot coffee, reading, being outdoors, pilates, trying new foods and exploring new places are some of the things I’m diving into right now.

I love traveling and making memories with my two boys and husband in our second home in Serbia. Spending time outdoors, near water, trees, or mountains. Inside, catch me on my reformer, mat or preparing and enjoying a good vegan meal with my family.

I would say above all else my teaching style is adaptable. To the class that is listed, but also to the bodies that show up in front of me. Ultimately, I let the energy in the room and needs of the students set my lesson plan for the day. We might show up with one intention, but let it flow where you, my student, need it to go. I am pro props! I believe in using them not only for modifications, but also advancing your practice. Sustainable movement is tops for me, connecting the practice on the mat to what you will be doing in life beyond the studio (for many years to come).

Growing up, I spent all of my time at the rink training in figure skating. Then later, shifting to gymnastics. Flexibility came easy to me, but by the time I hit high school I was made to feel like I didn’t belong in the gym. When I got to University, I was invited to try a yoga class. It was an easy and natural fit. After a decade of practice, I decided to take my first 200-hour teacher training in Hatha yoga. Soon after, I fell for Pilates and trained in that for both mat and reformer. I began my teaching career in Toronto working with the two ends of the spectrum - preschool/kindergarten students and 65+ seniors. After having two kids in under two years in my 30’s, my body felt different, and stiff for really the first time. I was inspired to teach other expectant mothers and those in their postnatal period how Yoga, Pilates, Breathwork and Mindfulness could help them in this transitional time.

My yoga journey and how I teach yoga is rooted in a deep understanding of mindfulness and self-discovery. I began my journey at the age of 25, practicing on and off but always returning to yoga as a source of grounding and balance in my life. I felt the desire to learn more about yoga and be able to teach it to others, so I received my 200 hr YTT at the Yoga Loft, and then continued my mindful journey by receiving my 100hr Meditation Teacher Training a year after. I believe that yoga transcends physical poses; it is a holistic practice that nurtures the mind, body and spirit, and as corny as that sounds I have seen the transformation yoga practices have brought to me personally and what it has brought to other people. Yoga has allowed me and others explore our inner selves, fostering a sense of community and connection. As a yoga teacher, my approach is gentle and inclusive, making yoga accessible to everyone, especially beginners. Through this journey, I have cultivated a style that celebrates the transformative power of yoga beyond the mat.

MELINDA JAYNE GILMOUR

My favorite styles of yoga is restorative and yoga Nidra, but I also get excited teaching a mindful, focused Hatha practice with an emphasis on breath awareness, gentle movement and relaxation. I like to ensure that each session is designed to cultivate mindfulness and self-awareness through foundational poses, guided meditations and calming techniques. My pace for teaching is intentional, with clear instructions and a supportive environment good for beginners and experienced participants.

I love art, and nature and combining the two by capturing scenes that are captivating to the eye and then drawing or painting them. I am a mom of two boys, which I believe was by divine design, as I am truly a tomboy at heart. I am an avid soccer player and have a slight competitive nature. I love to travel, and to eat delicious food and to share this with friends and family.
